Hi there! My name is Emilie, and I’ve been working in the zoo field for more than 10 years. Even as I write that, it’s hard to believe how quickly the time has passed. I’ve wanted to work with animals for as long as I can remember, so being able to spend my career doing something I dreamed about as a child is something I never take for granted.

 

Over the years, my love for wildlife has only continued to grow. There is always something new to discover—whether it’s learning about a species I’ve never encountered before, uncovering new details about animals I thought I already knew well, or seeing the incredible ways people around the world are working to protect wildlife and wild places.

 

One of my favorite parts of working in a zoo is sharing that sense of wonder with others. I love talking with people who are genuinely curious about animals and watching their excitement grow as they learn something new. I especially love introducing people to the species that may not be as well-known or immediately recognizable, but are every bit as fascinating and deserving of our attention.

 

Outside of my work, wildlife photography has become another way for me to connect with animals. Photography has taught me to slow down, be patient, and pay attention to the small moments. There is something incredibly special about capturing an individual animal's personality, quirks, and unique traits—those little pieces of who they are that make them more than just a species or a name.

 

For a long time, I’ve wanted to find a way to combine my love of wildlife, storytelling, creativity, and conservation into something I could share with others.

That’s where the Animal Arkive began.

 

The Arkive is my way of taking something familiar—receiving something special in the mail—and giving it a deeper purpose. Each package is designed to introduce you to incredible animals, share the stories that make them unique, and help create a stronger connection between people and the wildlife we all share this planet with.

 

Because I believe that the more we learn about animals, the more we care about them. And the more we care, the more inspired we can become to help protect them.
